This Privacy Policy explains how Teal Meal LLC, the owner and operator of Teal Meal (“Teal Meal,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, stores, and protects information through the Teal Meal mobile application.

Teal Meal is intended for adults who use the app in connection with feeding an infant or young child. It is not intended for direct use by children.


  1. What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. During parent profile setup, we collect your name and date of birth. We also record the date and version of your acceptance of our Terms, Privacy Policy, and related disclosures.

If you use Apple or Google sign-in, we may receive information such as your email address, name, or profile photo URL, depending on the provider and your settings. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.

For each child profile, you may provide the child’s name, date of birth, optional photo, height, weight, known allergies, and Teal Meal Plate or related portion preference.

  1. How we use your data


We use your information to:

  • create, authenticate, and manage accounts;

  • verify that account holders meet the age requirement;

  • create and manage child profiles;

  • generate AI-supported food analyses and chat responses;

  • provide age-related ratings, allergen flags, preparation suggestions, and nutrient estimates;

  • calculate estimated nutrient goals;

  • display food logs, calendar history, and progress;

  • save parent notes and observations;

  • enforce usage limits and manage subscription access;

  • provide user-requested email exports and customer support;

  • maintain security and prevent misuse; and

  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information or use child-profile, allergy, food-log, photo, note, or chat information for targeted advertising.

  1. AI Processing

Teal Meal uses Anthropic’s Claude API to provide photo-based food analysis, text-based food analysis, and AI chat.

Depending on the feature used, information sent for AI processing may include:

  • a food or chat photo;

  • a food description or chat prompt;

  • the active AI chat conversation;

  • the child’s age in months;

  • known allergies;

  • portion information; and

  • Teal Meal Plate or related profile preferences.

When you send a new AI chat message, the active conversation is transmitted with the new message so the AI can respond in context.

Teal Meal does not use AI inputs or outputs to train models, conduct behavioral analytics, build advertising profiles, or perform A/B testing. Based on our current commercial arrangement, Anthropic does not use Teal Meal inputs or outputs to train its general AI models. Anthropic’s processing and retention of information are governed by our agreement and Anthropic’s applicable terms.

 

  1. Where your data is stored

Chile profiles, food logs, saved AI results, usage counters, parent notes, and reaction observations are stored locally through app storage on your device. This information is not synced to other devices or backed up to Teal Meal’s servers. Logging out ends your active session but may preserve local information on that device.

Account information, including your email address, hashed credentials, session information, parent name and date of birth, account-completion status, and legal-acknowledgment records, is stored through Supabase on servers located in the United States.

AI chat is not saved by Teal Meal. The active conversation remains available only during the chat session and is removed from the app session when you leave the chat screen or close the app. Unsaved scan results, encoded images sent for AI processing, raw system prompts, and raw API responses are not persistently stored by Teal Meal.



  1. Third-party services

We use third-party providers to operate certain app functions:

  • Anthropic processes food photos, food descriptions, AI chat content, and relevant child-profile context to generate requested AI outputs.

  • Supabase provides authentication, account, session, and legal-acknowledgment services.

  • Apple and Google may provide social sign-in, app distribution, subscription, billing, refund, and device-account services.

  • RevenueCat or another subscription-management provider may process subscription status and related transaction information if implemented.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. We may replace or add providers as the app develops. If a change materially affects how personal information is processed, we will update this Policy and provide any notice required by law — anthropic.com/privacy and supabase.com/privacy.

  1. Camera and Photo Access

If you take or select a food or profile photo, Teal Meal may request access to your device’s camera or photo library.

For food analysis, the selected image is temporarily encoded and transmitted to our AI provider. The encoded copy is created for the request and is not saved by Teal Meal. If you save the result to your Food Log, Teal Meal stores a local reference to the image on your device and does not upload the image to Teal Meal’s servers.


  1. Analytics, Tracking, and Advertising

Under the current app design, Teal Meal does not use behavioral advertising, advertising identifiers, third party advertising SDKs, behavioral analytics SDKs, cross-app tracking, prompt or response logging, or A/B testing.

We do not sell personal information or use child-related or feeding information for targeted advertising. If these practices change, we will update this Policy and provide any notice or choice required by applicable law.


  1. Email Export

You may choose to email a Food Log to a pediatrician or another recipient through your device’s email application. The export may include the child’s name and age, food history, app-generated ratings, allergen flags, nutrient information, preparation suggestions, and parent-authored notes or reaction observations.

You control whether and to whom the report is sent. Teal Meal does not control your email provider, the recipient, or how the information is handled after you send it.


  1. Children's privacy

Teal Meal accounts are limited to users who are at least 18 years old. The app is intended for parents, legal guardians, and authorized caregivers and is not intended for direct use by children. Children may not create accounts.

Information about a child is provided by an adult caregiver. Child profiles are stored locally on the caregiver’s device, although relevant information, such as age in months, known allergies, portion information, and profile preferences—may be temporarily transmitted for AI processing as described in this Policy.

If you believe a child has directly provided information to Teal Meal without appropriate adult involvement, contact us so we can review and address the matter. Additionally, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by ensuring child data is never used for marketing, profiling, or sold to third parties.

  1. Your rights

You can: view all data on your child profiles via the Profile menu; delete individual food log entries from the Food Log tab; delete a child profile via long-press on the home screen; log out to remove the active session from this device (your local snapshot is preserved for next login). To permanently delete your account and all associated server data, use Settings  Account Delete account in the app, or email support@tealmeal.com and we will process the request within 30 days.

  1. Sensitive and Consumer Health Information

Allergy information, height, weight, feeding history, reaction observations, nutrient information, and related data may be considered sensitive information or consumer health data under applicable law.

We use this information to provide the features requested by the caregiver. We do not sell it or use it for targeted advertising. Depending on applicable law, additional rights or consent requirements may apply. Privacy requests may be submitted to support@tealmeal.com



  1. Data retention

We retain server-side account information while your account remains active and for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Teal Meal, comply with law, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and protect security.

Local child profiles, Food Logs, saved outputs, and notes remain on your device until you delete them, clear the relevant data, delete the app, or otherwise remove the app’s local storage. AI chat remains available only during the active chat session and is not saved by Teal Meal.

When you request account deletion, we will delete or deidentify server side account information we control within 30 days, subject to the limited retention exceptions described above. Third party providers may retain information under their own terms and policies.



  1. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. These measures include HTTPS for network transmissions and Supabase Auth for credential handling. Passwords are not stored in readable form.

Child profiles, Food Logs, and related information are stored locally through app storage. You should protect your device using a passcode, biometric lock, and other available device-level protections.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. If you believe your account or information has been compromised, change your password and contact support@tealmeal.com.

 

  1. United States Availability

Teal Meal is currently intended only for users located in the United States. It is not currently intended for users in the European Union, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions requiring additional international privacy disclosures or transfer mechanisms. If Teal Meal expands outside the United States, we may update this Policy and provide additional disclosures and rights.


  1. Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we collect or use data, we will prompt you to re-acknowledge the updated policy on next app open. Minor wording or clarification updates may be made without prompting.
